The „Bartlmastag“ – An impressive alpine event

Make sure to mark August 24th in your calendar. This is one of the iconic days on Renon. The occasion for this is provided by the annual Almabtrieb (returning of the cows to the village from the alp) on the feast day of St. Bartholomew. The animals, which have enjoyed green alpine pastures on Renon during the summer, return to the valley for the holiday and are handed over to their farmers. In Pemmern, an exciting folk festival takes place on Bartlmas Day for a special occasion. In addition to plenty of tradition, numerous culinary highlights are offered. Especially the holiday donuts (Festtagskrapfen in German) are worth trying. End the day in your personal jacuzzy at Chalet Grumer with a breathtaking view of the Dolomites.

South Tyrol has a lot to offer in culinary terms. Amongst others, the region is known for its rich wine culture. The Loacker-Schwarhof on the foothills of Renon offers an enjoyable experience with views over the city of Bolzano. The Loacker winemakers are among the pioneers in organic wine production. The estate grows indigenous wines such as the Gewürztraminer, St. Magdalener and Lagrein, which are enjoyed on summer days in South Tyrol to light Italian cuisine. Also international grape varieties such as Cabernet or Chardonnay are grown at the winery. You may reach the Loacker-Schwarhof from the Chalet Grumer within 30 minutes.

Renon has its own lake: the Wolfsgrubener See. At 1100 meters, it offers guests cooling in the fresh alpine waters. The lake is idyllically situated in the forest between Oberbozen and Unterinn and freely accessible. From Chalet Grumer it may be reached in a one-hour hike. By car, you may reach the Wolfsgrubener See in just 10 minutes. An interesting fact to the lake: It was originally fed only by rainfall. Today, a clear mountain river leads to the lake, so that the Wolfsgrubener lake is well filled all year round. In addition, it is consistently ranked one of the ten clearest lakes in Italy.
